Sock-puppet Awareness

The LSRS advocates against the practice of sock puppetry. We have adopted this controversial stance for the following reasons:

1. The vast majority of sock puppets are made from perfectly wearable single socks.
2. It allows the puppeteer to force them into non-consensual acts, such as kissing, and violent acts like hitting.
3. It allows the puppeteer to use a sock as a means to express views and opinions not shared by the sock.

Sock puppetry demeans the sock, and renders it unwearable.

We encourage safe, respectful imaginative play! There are many  alternative materials to socks for puppet-making, including:
1. Felt scraps
2. Gloves
3. Paper bags
4. Spoons
5. Popsicle sticks
6. Cardboard
7. Pipecleaners & pompoms
